Another type of Landscape painting that I love, is to wander around with my sketchbook capturing the angles, shadows and dark spaces between walls of old industrial Sydney. My favourite by far is Cockatoo Island /Waremah with its convict built housing, and the Fitzroy dry dock.

Cockatoo Island / Waremah intersects the homelands of the Wallummedegal, Wangal, Cammeraygal, and Gadigal peoples. It was also added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2010. The island was a penal settlement from 1839-1869, and has a remarkable history of shipbuilding and ship repair facility. The facilities built more than 80 ships for the Royal Australian Navy.

The facility closed down in 1991, but many of its large interesting machines, cranes, and heavy machinery remain to please the eye.
